Yesterday Canon released news of a new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens. This is the newest model of the lens I have been saving for. It looks like they made some nice improvements.
This news lens has reduced the minimum focusing distance to 3.9 feet. The new lens incorporats a fluorite element and a fifth UD element. The result is a better image quality with improved contrast and resolution.
DPReview.com has a good pre-release review of of the new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II lens.
There is no price associated with the news lens yet and the release date is scheduled for April 2010. This looks like it is going to be a winner. If the price is not out of line with the current version of this lens it will still be my next lens purchase.

Wow, that looks very nice. I have a 70-200mm lens with vibration reduction for my Nikon D80 and I’m pretty happy with it. But i have to admit the white Canon lenses look much cooler

I agree. I don’t know the price, but when I save enough this will be my lens.

It’s out and id $2,500. Hopefully the price will drop a bit in the next few months. I am getting closer to buying this thing.

i am quite surprised after knowing about the price of this lens i think it is quite expensive.

That looks expensive but its pretty nice cam to have, and I agree to one of the post here we need to have a few months, for the price to drop abit..so it can suit to our budget.

That’s so great.
I wonder how an image really looks using that lens.
It must be very useful.
I wish I could see and use it personally.

I’ve been looking at the performance vs price of this lens and have come to the conclusion that I must pass over from Nikon to Canon..I am currently using the Sigma equivalent for Nikon and the image sharpness is truly disappointing.

A business partner of mine has been ecstatic about this lens for the past couple of weeks. Like you, she has been saving for this purchase and cannot wait until it comes out. She is in real estate and is also a photographer. Besides her photography, she uses her cameras on many of her properties to capture everything in great clarity. I will have to bookmark this page and give her a heads up. Thanks for sharing.

A useful all round lens, but also get a prime 50mm for even better optics and which is suitable for low light conditions.

The optics on any of the 50mm is nowhere near that of the 70-200mm II.
